Join us for the USS Monitor Legacy Program, which highlights the history and lasting impact of the USS Monitor in partnership with the NOAA Monitor National Marine Sanctuary. About the lecture: This August 5, 1864, engagement closed the final major Confederate port on the Gulf of Mexico. After a fierce battle was fought between the two highest ranking officers of the Civil War, Admirals Franklin Buchanan and David Glasgow Farragut gave their all to achieve victory; still, the Union superior fleet prevailed. “Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead!” Attending in person? This event is included in $1 admission, and free for Mariners' Museum Members. Seating is limited. Watching remotely? This lecture is free to watch and you may register online. Presented by John V.
